Tax & Bookkeeping in Tallahassee
Small Business Tax and Accounting Services, All in One Office
We handle tax preparation and planning, bookkeeping, payroll and IRS problems in one place, so the same team that reconciles your books prepares your return, instead of three providers who never compare notes.

The Trades Are Where We Go Deepest
We work with individuals and small businesses of most kinds, and construction is the corner of it we know best. Roofing, painting, framing, concrete and remodeling contractors come to us because the accounting questions in that work are specific ones.
Retailers and professional service firms get the same treatment, where the questions turn into inventory, seasonal swings and how an owner takes money out of the business.
Job costing that puts materials, labor and subcontractor payments on the project they came from, so you can see which jobs actually made money.
Cash flow planning around the gap between draws, when payroll and material bills will not wait for the next payment.
Project profitability you can look at before you bid the next one, rather than after the season closes.
Equipment purchases and owner pay timed against the return, so a strong year does not become a surprise in April.
One Office for the Books, the Payroll and the Return
Most owners arrive looking for one thing: a small business accountant who can also run payroll, or a preparer who will take the bookkeeping too. Every service below runs on the same set of records, so nothing gets explained twice.
Tax Preparation and Tax Planning
Federal and state returns prepared, then walked through with you before anything is filed, plus planning during the year while decisions can still move the number.
Bookkeeping and Outsourced Accounting
Transactions entered, bank and credit card accounts reconciled, and a monthly close that ends in a profit and loss and a balance sheet you can use. If the file is a year or two behind, catch-up bookkeeping starts by rebuilding it.
Payroll Services
Pay runs, withholding, direct deposit, the quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and the year-end forms, posted into your accounting file where they belong. If you have an employee in another state, multi-state payroll tax is part of the same conversation.
Tax Resolution and IRS Problem Help
Unfiled years, notices that are still in the envelope, balances too large to pay at once. We deal with the IRS on your behalf and tell you plainly where you stand.
Sales Tax Compliance
Registration, rates, returns and the filing calendar, so a sales tax obligation in a state you sell into does not turn into a notice a year later.
Business Consulting and Entity Questions
Whether an LLC or an S corp fits how you actually get paid, what the numbers say about pricing and capacity, and the CFO-level questions most owners have nobody to ask.
There is more here than fits on a homepage, including financial statements, accounting software setup and cleanup, retirement plans for owners, and buying or selling a business. The
full range of what we handle sits on one page.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
Seventeen Years of Returns, and the Same Person Every Year
Craig Collins has seventeen years of individual and business tax experience and has run Collins Income Tax Solutions for fifteen of them. Across the office there is roughly sixty years of combined experience. Craig works directly with owners, which means the person who asks the questions in January is the person who explains the return in March.
That matters most to the clients who arrive behind. Unfiled years and unreconciled books are ordinary work here, and the first conversation is about what it takes to get current, not about how the pile got that tall.
"People appreciate that I make the complex simple. If you're behind, we'll take the weight off your shoulders and get you moving forward."
- The same tax professional on your account year after year, rather than whoever picks up the queue.
- Plain explanations before you sign anything, and a call back when a question comes up in July.
- Practical guidance for the decisions between filings, from pricing a job to taking on a hire.
- Fair pricing, discussed before the work starts, without cookie-cutter service.
- Se habla español.
We can prepare returns and keep the books for clients in any state. Remote tax preparation is not a lesser version of the engagement here, because the whole thing runs on a secure client portal instead of email attachments.
You get a login. Documents go up through the portal, questions get answered there or by phone, the draft return comes back for you to read before anything is filed, and the signature is electronic. The finished return and a copy of everything filed stay in your portal, so you can pull them for a lender or a bonding company without calling us.
- Documents move through the portal from wherever you are, including a photo taken on your phone.
- Originals stay with you. We work from the uploads.
- The e-file authorization is signed electronically, so no paper changes hands.
In-person still works too. If you would rather sit down at the Tallahassee office and turn the pages together, that is available.

What Working With Us Actually Looks Like
A first conversation
We ask what the business does, what is filed and what is not, and what is bothering you right now. If there are prior returns, we read them before we say anything.
A document list built for your situation
You get a list of exactly what we need, not a generic checklist. If something is missing or was never kept, we tell you what to do about that too.
The work itself
Books get reconciled, payroll gets set up or corrected, returns get prepared. You hear from us when we have a question, not only when we are finished.
The return, explained before it is filed
We go through what the return says and why the number came out where it did. Nothing gets filed until you have read it.
The rest of the year
Planning conversations, quarterly estimates, and a call when something changes on your end or in the rules. Filing season is short when the other eleven months are handled.
Local in Tallahassee and Atlanta, Remote Anywhere Else
Our office sits in Tallahassee, and Leon County businesses have been a large part of this practice for fifteen years. We work with businesses and individuals across metro Atlanta on the same terms. Neither market is the side project.
In Florida, our
Tallahassee tax preparation and bookkeeping services page covers how the local work runs, including Florida sales tax and the reemployment tax a small employer still owes in a state with no individual income tax. In Georgia, our Atlanta tax preparation and bookkeeping services page covers Georgia income tax withholding and the filings a business there carries through the year.
Outside those two markets, distance is not a constraint. The engagement runs the same way from the first document through the filed return.
Questions Owners Ask Before They Call
Can one office handle my business taxes, my bookkeeping and my payroll?
Yes. Collins Income Tax Solutions handles tax preparation and planning, bookkeeping and payroll in the same office, so the records a return is built from are the ones we reconciled and the payroll figures are already sitting where they belong. Owners often come to us after running three separate providers and spending their own evenings translating between them. You can start with one service and add the others when you are ready.
Do I need a local accountant, or can a tax preparer handle everything online?
The entire engagement can run online, from the first document through the filed return. Documents are uploaded to a secure client portal rather than emailed, the draft return is reviewed with you before it is filed, and the e-file authorization is signed electronically. An office visit is an option here, not a requirement.
Do you work with construction contractors?
Construction is the industry we work in most. Roofing, painting, framing, concrete and remodeling businesses come to us for job costing, cash flow across the gap between draws, and a clear read on which projects made money. That work sits underneath the return rather than beside it, so the planning reflects how a contractor's year actually runs.
What happens if I am behind on filings or my books?
Being behind is a normal way an engagement starts here. We find out how many years are open and how much of the record still exists, rebuild the bookkeeping file where it is needed, then file the returns in an order that makes sense. Sorting out what is missing is the useful conversation, so that is the one we have.
